Study association for philosophy at the VU

"The life of man (in a state of nature) is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short."

- Thomas Hobbes

About us:

We are the 2020/2021 board of the philosophy study association Icarus! Our board is made up of the president, Quinten Torre, the treasurer, Joris Schultz-Heienbrok, and the secretary, Jasmine Campbell. We are very excited about being on the board this academic year and are passionate about ensuring Icarus stays a connected and fun community of philosophers. Even during this difficult period of time surrounding the pandemic we still hope to achieve this for our members.

Our president, Quinten, is in the third year of his philosophy bachelor at the VU. Our treasurer, Joris, is in his second year of his philosophy bachelor at the VU. Joris is from Berlin and in his free time enjoys playing sports such as basketball and football. Our secretary, Jasmine, is also in her second year of her philosophy bachelor at the VU. Jasmine grew up in Maastricht in the Netherlands but has British parents. In her free time, Jasmine enjoys reading and drawing and cuddling her cat, Pixie.

For any questions or concerns for us our about the board or Icarus in general please feel free to contacts us at: vu.icarus@gmail.com

Committees

Icarus is driven by three student-commitees besides the board: the activity-committee, borrel-committee and travel-committee. All these people help to create Icarus as a great place for developing yourself in philosophy as well as a great place to spent time with your fellow students. We are currently setting up the committees for this year and recretuiting their members. We'll keep you updated on our progress!
